Smart front-door locks.

Australian supply and compliance evidence, door-fit requirements and Home Assistant integration paths.

Research checked 12 October 2026 · Home Assistant Core 2026.10.1

What “Australian approved” establishes

The Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM) identifies compliance under applicable Australian supplier obligations, including relevant radio/EMC and electrical-safety arrangements. It does not grade burglary resistance, certify Home Assistant compatibility, approve a fire-door assembly or establish insurance acceptance. A manufacturer’s RCM statement is a published supplier claim; independent test evidence was not retrieved for every product here. Retail sale and CE/FCC marks do not establish exact-model Australian compliance. [01] [02]

EESS electrical-equipment scope depends on voltage and other criteria. A low-voltage battery lock does not automatically require the same mains-equipment registration as a power adapter. Any supplied mains adapter has its own requirements; absence of a mains-equipment registration number alone does not demonstrate that a battery lock is noncompliant. [03]

Keep evidence fields separate: Australian supplier/RCM; mechanical security and durability; exterior ingress; bushfire performance; fire-door assembly compatibility; cybersecurity support; installation fit; and insurance.

A BAL claim does not establish a fire-resistance level for every door assembly. “Evidence not located” means unverified in this research; it does not mean failed or unlawful.

Home Assistant command paths

Radio transport, command path and commissioning dependencies are separate checks.
PathHA command pathDependencies and limits
Native Matter over ThreadLocal HA Matter controller → Thread border router → lock. The border router transports Thread traffic; it need not be the lock maker’s hub. Setup, firmware or vendor settings can still require an app/account. HA OS is the documented supported Matter Server deployment. [04]
Z-WaveLocal Z-Wave JS → compatible ANZ controller → ANZ lock/module.Buy the Australian/New Zealand radio region: 919.80/921.40 MHz. Changing a controller’s region does not change an imported end device’s radio. Secure inclusion and device interview determine actual capabilities. [05] [06]
ZigbeeLocal coordinator and supported ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT device implementation.A Zigbee badge does not prove support for every lock/module function. Match the exact fingerprint and firmware; a different Yale variant’s feature list cannot establish equivalence. [21]
Yale BluetoothLocal BLE control for listed locks.Offline-key provisioning or refresh may depend on a Yale account/cloud. A reliable nearby adapter or proxy is required. This setup dependency differs from a direct Z-Wave module. [26]
Wi-Fi / Schlage EncodeThe standard HA Schlage integration uses Schlage’s cloud API.Wi-Fi names a radio transport; it does not promise local HA control. Encode polling is approximately every 30 seconds. [40]

Current HA Matter functions

Core 2026.10.1 is released software, dated 10 October 2026. Its Matter lock implementation supports control/state and lock-user/credential actions. PIN management is therefore conditional on the delivered lock’s capabilities, rather than universally absent. [07] [08] [09]

These are integration capabilities, not a bench-test result for every model below. [08] [09]

Automation comparison

Compare actual Home Assistant commands, sensing, PIN administration, events, timers and outage behaviour, with evidence labels and a provisional shortlist.

Model reference

The order below groups manufacturer families. It expresses no preference or purchase ranking. All fit statements require the current installation template and the actual door.

AU supply evidence and HA compatibility evidence checked 12 October 2026. RCM entries describe the reviewed documentation, not an independent certification.

Gainsborough Freestyle Smart Wi-Fi Trilock · ET-WIFI generation

AU SKUs: GFSW8951AURBSC (brushed satin chrome), GFSW8951AURMB (matte black). Matter over Thread is documented only for these latest ET-WIFI models; older Freestyle versions are outside that claim. Update firmware through the Freestyle app before enabling Matter. A Thread border router is required. [10]

Integration evidence: the manufacturer’s matrix lists Matter lock/unlock and battery, with no remote deadlock or Door Sensor Kit door-state monitoring over Matter. Freestyle app and Matter operation are independent modes; returning to app operation requires factory reset/reconfiguration. HA is not named in that matrix, so HA compatibility is a protocol-based inference. Verify entities, PIN/user actions and deadlocking behaviour on the delivered firmware. [10]

Published fit/access: 35–45 mm thickness, 54 mm cross-bore and 60/70 mm backset in product data; the descriptive bullet mentions 60 mm. Check the supplied latch/current template rather than resolve the discrepancy by assumption. Intended for entry doors sheltered from direct weather. Mechanical emergency key and external 9 V emergency power are documented. [11] [13]

Supply/warranty: AU satin-chrome retail SKU independently recorded. Published mechanical/tarnish/electronic warranties are 10/5/2 years, subject to terms. Exact-model RCM and Australian mechanical-security/fire evidence were not established; its cybersecurity statement is a separate claim. The historical 2020 brochure could not be retrieved during link checking. Gainsborough’s April 2025 retrofit guide includes template work and additional drilling; that general guide still does not confirm fit to a particular door. [12] [14] [15]

Yale Assure SL and Assure Keyed · Australian variants

Current AU bundles: SL YRD256HKSC / YRD256HKMBK; Keyed YRD226HKSC / YRD226HKMBK. SL is key-free with external 9 V emergency power; Keyed has a mechanical key. SL specifies 35–57 mm thickness, adjustable 60–70 mm backset, 54 mm bore, 25 mm latch hole, four AA alkaline cells and a three-year electromechanical warranty. Yale publishes RCM compliance and ANSI/BHMA A156.36 Grade 2 claims for SL; independent certification evidence was not retrieved. [16] [17]

Module choice: AU YRD-ZWM-1 (Z-Wave) or YRD-ZBM-1 (Zigbee) replaces the bundled Yale Home module in the single slot. Yale Home, Z-Wave and Zigbee cannot be assumed to run simultaneously. Yale Home module compatibility requires firmware 2.7 or newer. [18]

Z-Wave: an ANZ module/controller with HA Z-Wave JS gives a local command path without a Yale cloud bridge. Confirm control/state, battery and user-code capabilities after secure inclusion/interview; HA has set/clear lock-user-code actions where supported. The ZWM-1 installation document states applicable RCM/RSM compliance. [19] [20]

Zigbee: match exact AU module fingerprint and firmware to the local integration. Zigbee2MQTT’s YRM476 battery/lock/PIN/operation-user fields do not certify YRD-ZBM-1 equivalence. Assure YRD226/YRD256/YRL226 are also listed by HA’s Yale BLE integration, with the separate offline-key requirements below. [21] [26]

Supply generation: Yale Australia discontinued bare NR bundles in October 2023; retail stock may contain older variants. Current HK models appear in AU listings, generally as special orders. Local stock remains unchecked. [22] [23]

Yale Unity Entrance Lock · Australian Bluetooth route

AU SKUs: YUR/DEL/1/SIL and YUR/DEL/1/MBK are expressly listed by HA Yale Access Bluetooth. The AU catalogue publishes RCM, AS4145.2:2008 SL8 security/D8 durability and AS1530.8.1-2007 BAL-40 claims. These are product-specific claims; the ordinary Unity and separately offered fire-rated variant are distinct. [24] [25] [26]

Published hardware: 35–60 mm door thickness; 60 mm latch with 70 mm alternative sold separately; key-free, four AA batteries. The external keypad is optional rather than built into the handle. [25]

HA BLE setup and limits: local control/state requires an offline key and slot, with Yale cloud/account provisioning or refresh to consider. Place a reliable adapter/proxy near the door. Some locks need active HomeKit pairing for push updates; do not run HA HomeKit Device and Yale BLE on the same lock simultaneously. DoorSense needs app calibration, and always-connected operation can increase battery use. PIN/user management and full vendor activity history are not established by this BLE documentation. [26]

Cybersecurity support: Yale’s AU compliance hub publishes model-specific declarations and security-support dates. The reviewed page states support until 1 March 2028 for its listed products. That commitment is separate from mechanical warranty and does not establish indefinite cloud operation. [27]

Aqara U400 · native Matter over Thread deadbolt

AU supply: Aqara explicitly lists Australia among launch regions. Apple Australia lists Shadow Black Deluxe Kit HS3Z2ZM/A, with two batteries/two keys. Aqara Australia lists a separate U400 + M100 package with hub and one battery. These are distinct packages. [28] [29] [30]

HA evidence: Aqara expressly names HA for native Matter over Thread. A proprietary Aqara hub is not required for basic HA Matter control; a Thread border router is. Control/state, battery, user/credential actions and operation details depend on advertised attributes/current firmware. Fingerprint enrolment, full vendor history and Apple UWB/Home Key provisioning are separate from ordinary HA Matter commands. [31] [08]

Model/fit evidence: global identifiers include DL-D06E/DL-D16E, hub kits DL-D06D/DL-D16D and two-battery Deluxe kits DL-D17D/DL-D15D. Check the AU package label instead of guessing an internal model from colour. Fingerprint, PIN, NFC, mechanical keys and Apple digital-key features are vendor features. Exterior IP65 and BHMA claims are published; exact-model Australian RCM/fire/insurance evidence was not established. Confirm the AU installation template, bores/backset and coverage of previous holes. [31]

Aqara U200 · retrofit kit EL-D02D

AU kit: EL-D02D is listed in black/silver. Native Matter over Thread uses HA’s Matter controller and a Thread border router without inherently requiring an Aqara bridge. Vendor settings can require direct Bluetooth; some advanced Aqara functions need its app/hub. This motor retains compatible underlying mechanical hardware rather than supplying a new deadbolt. [32]

Mechanical compatibility: the official manual covers Euro-profile/select Scandinavian cylinders and US single-cylinder deadbolts. It calls for an emergency-function Euro cylinder so the external key works while an internal key is inserted. That does not establish Gainsborough Trilock compatibility. Security also depends on the existing cylinder, lock and door assembly. [33]

HA/evidence limits: lock/unlock/state is the intended Matter path. Test battery and PIN/user actions on delivered firmware; no universal current minimum firmware was established for every desired HA feature. changed_by does not promise named-person history. Exact-model RCM and Australian mechanical/fire certification were not located. [08] [32]

Aqara U300 · lever lock DL-D02D

AU published specification: Matter over Thread, 35–55 mm door thickness, 60/70 mm backset, fingerprint/PIN/NFC, mechanical keys, USB-C emergency power and four AA batteries. The AU page expressly marks fire rating “No”. IPX4 applies to the external panel; protective shelter is advised. Passage mode can be enabled locally and disabled remotely; the vendor description does not permit remote activation. [34]

HA and fit: native local Matter requires a border router and the same capability/firmware checks as U400. This is an integrated lever/latch, not a separate deadbolt. The single-bore layout is not confirmed to cover/reuse Trilock preparation. AU sale is documented, but conflicting dynamic in-stock/out-of-stock strings prevent a stock claim. Exact-model RCM evidence was not located. [34] [09]

Aqara U100 · bridged Matter route

Architecture: U100 is a Zigbee/Bluetooth deadbolt whose documented Matter interoperability requires a compatible Aqara Matter bridge. Its Zigbee radio alone does not establish direct ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT support. Fingerprint/PIN, mechanical key and USB-C emergency access are documented vendor features. [35]

AU packages: a silver U100 + M100 kit is listed; older E1 bundles also exist. DL-D01D is an AU-listed U100 identifier. Confirm actual lock/hub labels and firmware rather than infer support from a bundle name. [36] [37]

HA dependencies: the HA-to-bridge Matter leg can remain local after setup. Account/app and hub firmware remain commissioning/vendor-feature dependencies. Confirm the exact bridge exposes the lock and battery; app PIN/users/history do not establish Matter feature parity. Exact-model RCM documentation was not located. [35] [09]

Schlage Encode · Australian Wi-Fi deadbolt

AU ordering codes: SRE60121 satin nickel and SRE60120 matte black; keyed-alike variants add K. Allegion says these cannot be keyed to Gainsborough GR9 builder systems or Gainsborough lock-owner key numbers. Standard Encode appears in an AU Bunnings special-order listing. [38] [39]

HA cloud path: the official Schlage integration polls its cloud API at approximately 30-second intervals. It offers control/state, battery, selected settings and add/delete/get PIN-code actions. HA support is documented, but this integration does not provide cloud-independent HA control. [40]

Regional published fit/warranty: 35–46 mm doors, extension kit for 47–64 mm, 60/70 mm backset, four AA batteries; three-year electronic and limited-lifetime mechanical/finish warranties. Check current SKU-specific terms. Exact-model RCM evidence was not established here. [41]

Keep US variants separate: Sense Pro has native Matter over Thread, but an AU release/SKU, regional warranty and exact-model RCM evidence were not established. Encode Plus’s Thread/HomeKit capability is not interchangeable with standard Encode Wi-Fi and does not prove Matter support. Connect is also a different product. [42] [43]

Generic door-fit checklist

No replacement in this reference is confirmed to fit a particular door. Door width and appearance alone do not establish compatibility. Before ordering, record:

A separate smart deadbolt needs suitable preparation and separate opening hardware; it is not automatically a drop-in integrated-Trilock replacement. A retrofit motor needs a compatible cylinder/tailpiece and unobstructed mechanical operation. Check the selected model’s current template and the door maker’s drilling approval.

Warranty and remaining evidence gaps

Aqara Australia’s ordinary aftersales coverage applies to authorised Australian channels, subject to law; parallel imports are excluded from its voluntary coverage. No single AU warranty duration applicable to every lock/package was established. Check duration, installer requirements, weather exclusions, rechargeable-battery cover and the chosen seller’s claims process. [44]

Manufacturer warranties add to Australian consumer guarantees rather than replace them. [45]

For every candidate, confirm the exact AU compliance documents/label, hardware generation/radio region, delivered firmware, physical fit, door maker’s approval, current seller warranty and applicable insurer/building/fire requirements. This research involved no purchase, vendor contact or installation approval.

Installation acceptance checks

After a specific lock is selected and fitted, check with the installer while another entry remains available:

  1. Normal mechanical operation without rubbing or needing to lift/push the door; full strike engagement.
  2. Interior exit, every locking/deadlocking mode, low-battery behaviour and the documented emergency-access method.
  3. Agreement between HA command, physical movement and subsequent reported state for keypad/manual/key/HA operation. A command acknowledgement or stale “locked” state does not prove the door is closed.
  4. Loss of internet with LAN/controller/radio retained: establish which controls/alerts remain local. Separately test HA, router and border-router failure.
  5. Battery entities, open/closed sensing, code actions, event attribution and scheduled access individually; record exact lock firmware and integration versions.
  6. Secure recovery keys/codes and network backups. Keep Matter setup codes, PINs, lock keys, Thread credentials and household access schedules out of public documents.
